Taken
I just wanted to say that for the last few years I've been unlucky. Specifically in love. Why? The women that always want to be with me all seem to be in a serious relationship, engaged, or married! Why? I don't get it. Maybe when I get home to LA and away from Ohio this weekend, I'll have some answers.

i luv u
Before the advent of text messaging, there was instant messaging which came a specific language. Acronyms such as LOL, ROFL, and the one letter chracters replacing an entire word such as "r" and "u". Most of the time, it was used in chat rooms where scrolling was moving very quickly, so in order to speak your mind you had to type in code. On cell phones, where text messaging is used, we see this code used all time. Most of the time because we only have a certain amount or maximum amount of characters to send in each text message.
The reason why I'm bringing this up is because when people write a letter, email, especially a letter of thanks, I want all the letters of the word in complete sentences. Okay, maybe not complete sentences because for many that's too much to ask. All I could say is if you are sending a message write it out. Especially on emails, where there is an unlimited amount of things you could say and type, and there would be no maximum. I will admit there are a few people like my father who takes a long time to type and prefers to do this code, which is fine...but you younger folk...come on! If you write a letter, write it properly with at least the entire word! Is that too much to ask?

Warning Sperm Donors
Men will do many things for money. Though I have never done it, a friend of mine, who was in college at the time and didn't have much money, and he walked into a sperm bank to get a few hundred dollars for his donation. I remember discussing this many years ago with him, and I thought at one point, it's not that bad of an idea. You'd have complete anonyminity and earn a few bucks.
Well according to a Pennsylvania state appeals court, they ruled that a verbal agreement between a woman and her sperm donor was invalid, and ordered the man to pay child supprt for the woman's twins.
This means that all those times my friend walked in and got his few hundred bucks, there are single mothers who gave birth to his child, and they can sue his ass for child support. I guess that few hundred dollars at the time would be thousands of dollars per month per child. Ouch! I spoke to him today, a very successful businessman and family man, and asked him what he thinks. He said he would counter sue! (Oh boy! Only in America!) If a woman is going to sue me for child support, then I will sue for part custody of this child.
If this court case follows its course and a few years from now when all these single mothers had children on their own during the single mother craze of the late 1990s, I wonder how many children will be looking for their biological father to seek support and to get fundage for college.

Severe weather? For an hour
Today is just one of those days where you just don't want to do anything. Maybe it's because I'm in school in the middle of summer and there is nothing going on. Maybe it's because I'm bummed that I'm on a limited budget and money to fill up my gas tank to head to Amish country is not part of the budget. Oh no...it's the threat of severe thunderstorms every hour flashing across the tv screen.
Well instead of staying cooped up in my room, I did do my early morning Saturday ritual of running around Ohio Stadium(aka The Horseshoe) and made it to breakfast with my new friend I met earlier this week. Afterwards, she wanted to go to the movie theatres to catch a matinee and watch King Arthur. I can't say no, I'm not going to do anything anyways.
As we came out of the theatre there were a few clouds in the sky but no sign of any kind of thunderstorms to come. As I returned home and tried to study some Linear Algebra, lightning started streaking downward and thunder started rumbling across the sky. Living in Los Angeles for so many years, you never get to see or even hear such great power. As the terrific light and sound show shook my house, it started to rain in sheets and the winds changed the direction of the raindrops to hit almost perpendicular to the ground. Was I in a hurricane? Was I'm going to finally witness a tornado??
Of course not. After another half hour of this show from Mother Nature with the nearby road flooding over and lightning wacking out the cable. It stops. It's now an hour later, the sky has parted...the road is almost completely dried and the sun is shining. Even the neighborhood kids are already playing on the basketball courts and the squirrels are back to their business of looking into my window. Was Moses here?
All I could think of now is, if I had just stayed in the movie house for another film, I would of never known it rained. Why see another movie? Because I still haven't started on any studying yet!

Math Majors
Ever since I shared with people that I wanted to study Mathematics, they would say, "Whoa...You want to become a teacher?" And even though in the back of my mind and in my heart, I want to eventually do become a teacher/professor, I noticed that there are a lot of people who are very ignorant to what a mathematicians really do. For instance, all those statistics of your favorite team or presidential candidate...mathematicians. Insurance rates...mathematicians. The probability of what may happen to your stock portfolio...mathematicians. All the things you live with day to day came into being because of Mathematics and the people who perfect it...mathematicians. These people who studied their brains out on these abstract functions with its own language, they hardly ever get the credit. It's always the engineers, scientists, and lawyers. No mathematicians...not even any Math teachers. And these Math teachers should be have more weight to their profession than these non-Math professions. Because who else is going to teach and push these future engineers, scientists to think analytically...History majors?
So if you ever bump into a mathematician or a Math major...don't just say "Whoa...You want to become a teacher?" Find out what kind of Math do they practice...just like how you would ask a lawyer what kind of law does he/she practice. Because we aren't as boring, allegedly, as we look and rumored to be. Just that not many people talk to us because they feel they can't talk our language...where in fact, you really do.

Turning 30
Well I'm actually not 30 yet but it's less than 6 months away and it's been weighing heavily on my mind. As I recall the last 10 years of my life and look forward to an uncertain future, I specifically wonder about the decisions I've made in those 10 years.
See one of the reasons I left my place in the lineup at Bolsa Chica in Huntington Beach, California for the very cold but picturesque winters and humid hot summers is to finish my degree. Yes finish a degree that I started almost 10 years ago. And though I am now at least 10 years older than the average college student here, I don't have any regrets. Of course, I would do some things differently. But would I be the person today if I didn't make those decisions?
According to one of my long time best friends, I haven't changed. And to tell you the truth, it bugs me. Part of the reason I left LA was I felt that learning and having experiences in an unfamiliar place it would change me. Well for the last 10 months since I've been here, I haven't felt a slow dramatic change. But more of something waiting to get unleashed.
And I wonder, will it be at that age when I'm no longer in my 20s and entering the age of career and settling down, or after I completed one of my life goals of finally obtaining my degree.
I'll keep you updated.

Searching for the roots of my sarcasm
I was emailing an ex-girlfriend of mine today and I asked her a question. I wanted to know if I was sarcastic back when we dated 6 years.
Seems lately that my "American" sarcasm is not only getting me in trouble with my non-American friends, but also to the people I really do love and care about like my close friends and family. See recently I've been joking around with my sister about her birthday party which she is very passionate about. Well as I joked that I don't want to go if we aren't doing fun stuff, she started to cry. I later had to apologize for the situation and that made me think about the last few months where the same situation kept rising up particularly with my German girlfriend. My girlfriend didn't understand my jokes and we quite frequently spat about whether I was joking or being serious.
One of my best friends says that I've been sarcastic for sometime. I asked this Chicagoan mother, as of when, and she responded...oh when I started working for the bank. To clarify this, I asked a person I knew right before I started working for the bank. My ex-. So I asked my ex-girlfriend the question if I was sarcastic back then. Though it's been many years since we've been in each other's presence, she couldn't recall, but mentioned that she may have been sarcastic back then, and maybe some of it rubbed off on me. I mentioned to her that my friend said it was since we had broken up, which again is the same time I started working at the bank. No big deal right?
Rightfully so my ex- was upset, not that I was bugging her, but she felt how people will past judgement on you even if they don't know you. Well as one of many -isms that I have made throughout the years is to never past judgement unless you hear it from the horses mouth and you know the person personally. We can always make our assumptions on why people break up, but that's what it all is. Just assumptions. And mistakes.
What I really felt and should of said was that maybe my friend was wrong and my sarcasm probably didn't surface to it's full strength until a few months later after my ex- and I broke up. But I didn't and so she was mad upset at my friend who could be thinking that because we were broken up it changed me.
Well according to another closer friend who knew me before, during, and after my relationship with my ex-, I haven't changed nor am as sarcastic now as I was before. It must be just a part of my personality that people, particularly non-American girlfriends have to deal with.
So if you are reading this the beautiful, smart and talented ex- and blogger...I just want to say it's not your fault, nor is it my friend's fault, but again. Mine.
End apology.

1st blog
Okay, I hope this makes it to being published because everytime I start one, I never finish. Maybe it's just something I have to eventually get used to. I never wrote in a journal, but after knowing that Celine in Before Sunrise/Before Sunset movies always wrote journals, I'm going to start too! Well actually, I need someone to listen to what I have to say, whether it's one short sentence or a long blog that can last for hours.
